Splatoon 3 Zine

MoodBoard-2024

This class project, "Learn Me Something", from the Graphic Design l course and was my first self-directed project; the only caveat is that it had to teach the viewer about your topic and had to be no more than 500 words. I love video games and play them quite often, so I decided to make a beginner's guide on one of my most frequently played games.

Nintendo Game Manuals from the 90s and early 2000s

I decided to make a beginner's guide to the Splatoon franchise (specifically Splatoon 3) as it is one of my favorite Nintendo IPs that I've cherished since childhood. However, I started my journey with its latest entry, Splatoon 3, a day after its launch in 2022 and I remember being so lost not knowing what I was doing when I got in my first multiplayer match. I've read posts about the game online and realized there are people today who were in my shoes a few years ago. Thus this guide is specifically for them.

Paper Outline (Some content and topics were cut)

I took inspiration from Nintendo video game manuals from the '90s and early 2000s and a mix of Splatoon 1 and 3's aesthetic and branding.

I also made a typed document outlining all of the game's information (most of which I knew off the top of my head):

I also created a paper outlined based on this document but as you will see, a lot of things had to be cut from the final product to maintain a 500, word count.

A "Map" detailing object and paint splatter placement

Adobe Illustrator icons for the pages and background (except the duct tape)
